The Broadband Consortium of the Pacific Coast (BCPC) has as its primary purpose the expansion and improvement of broadband deployment, access, and adoption through the development of collaborative, stakeholder-driven regional strategies throughout the central coastal region of California.
Broadband, or high-speed Internet, is a critical 21st century technology & infrastructure integral to enabling:
- Economic competitiveness
- Public health and safety
- Sustainable Communities
- Civic Engagement
- Environmental preservation
- Access to information and services delivered through
broadband applications and technologies
Basic digital literacy skills are virtually essential to every aspect of the 21st century economy, yet infrastructure and access gaps are still present in the central pacific coast area of California resulting in a “Digital Divide.” The BCPC seeks to close these gaps and deliver the continued benefits of high-speed internet throughout the region.
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) provides funding to the Economic Development Collaborative to coordinate BCPC efforts in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties.
